Show Report
RAF Mildenhall
Air Fete 2001
| Date | 26-27 May 2001 |
| Weather | Warm with hazy sunshine. |
| Comment | Not a classic but definitely didn't deserve the 'whinging comments' I've heard from some sources and seen published on other sites. How can anyone say it was a poor show with the likes of a B-52H, B-1B, MH-53M and many fast jets in the flying program - unbelievable! |

Launch of the 'Home Team' as a KC-135R Stratotanker of the Mildenhall based 100th Air Refuelling Wing gets airbourne to display.
The RAF BBMF's Hurricane IIC looks particularly good this year, resplendent in its new colour scheme.
In my opinion they are not quite in the same league as the Red Arrows or Frecce Tricolori but the Patrouille de France still perform a well executed display.
Not a 'classic' fighter by any means but the Tornado F3 always puts up an impressive display that concentrates on its stronger points.
The combined demonstration by no less than three Sikorsky MH-53M Pave Low IV's and 'Special Operations' Hercules was very impressive.
The sight of a C-141B Starlifter landing at Mildenhall used to be a regular occurance but the type is gradually being withdrawn as more C-17A's are delivered. This aircraft is returning after dropping off the U.S. Army 'Golden Knights' parachute display team. Note the wheels, just inches from touch down.
The Royal Netherlands Air Force has done a decent paint job on their F-16A allocated to this year's display season.
Ear plugs in as the Rockwell B-1B Lancer launches.
A magnificent sight even after all the years it's been in service, the mighty B-52H gets airbourne.
