Show Report

International Air Tattoo 1989

RAF Fairford

Show details
Date July 1989
Weather Sunny with clear blue skies in sweltering temperatures on both show days.
Comment Had a proper 'Air Tattoo' feel to it after the poor weather present through much of IAT '87 together with some great highlights including the first appearance at an IAT by a USAF B-1B Lancer.

British Aerospace Harrier GR3

A Harrier GR3 from 233 OCU performing in perfect weather, seen here making a fast pass along the whole length of the display line.

Rockwell B-1B Lancer

Airshows don't get any better than this! A USAF B-1B gets airbourne in style to make its first appearance at an IAT and only its third appearance at a UK show, after Lakenheath in 1988 and earlier in '89 at Mildenhall. Note the distinctive purple glow of the afterburners.

Rockwell B-1B Lancer

Heads down - the B-1 returns to perform a fast pass at mach 0.98!
