Show Report
Chailey Air Show 2004
| Dates | 7th - 8th August 2004 |
| Weather | Hot and sunny throughout the weekend until late on the Sunday. |
| Comment | A very relaxed and nostalgic day out at this former war time airfield in rural East Sussex. The event was celebrating the 60th anniversary of D-Day, in particular the Polish air men serving with the RAF who were based here at that time. |

The show was opened by the classic lines of the Spitfire in the shape of Mk Vb BM597 that was flown by various Polish pilots of 316 and 317 squadrons during 1942-3. In contrast a photo reconnaissance PR Mk XI performed later in the show. I

The 'star' of the show, the most capable performer of all the Spitfire's that remain airworthy today is Mk IX MH434. When combined with the display talents of Ray Hanna who is seen here lovingly preparing the aircraft, there is no better warbird display on the show circuit. Note the celebratory Polish markings specially applied to the nose of the aircraft for this event.

By contrast, the rugged but more purposeful lines of the Hawker Hurricane, responsible for 3/5 of enemy losses during the Battle of Britain.

Not to be outdone by the Spitfire, a couple of Mustang's were present.
More American 'muscle' in the shape of a P-47 Thunderbolt. As can be seen, Chailey offers an uncluttered backdrop and good photograph opportunities.
An interesting demo was performed by this Fieseler Storch and Piper Cub.
A nice formation of North American T-6 Texan's (aka Harvard's).
